In 1995, Castle Galleries opened its first retail outlet in Stratford-upon-Avon. Its owner, Ian Weatherby-Blythe, aspired to run a successful gallery that provided a welcoming, comfortable environment to enjoy art. His vision was to make fine art more accessible to the ordinary man.
20 years on, that business has grown from one independent gallery, into a national brand, with over 30 galleries throughout the UK and avid collectors all over the world. Specialising in original and hand signed limited edition works from today's finest contemporary artists, Castle Galleries is now the UK's leading group of retail art galleries.
After two decades in the business, Castle Galleries continues to value its heritage, and the first gallery's doors in Stratford-upon-Avon remain open.
The key to that success? Passion.
We believe it's our staff's passion and commitment to excellence that sets Castle Galleries apart. Underlying everything we do is a drive to excel and an unrivalled passion for the art we sell. Too often great art is confined to the private homes of collectors, destined never to be enjoyed by the public. Our aim is to break down those barriers and make art accessible to all – no exclusion, no restrictions – just beautiful art which everyone can enjoy.
"The thing that sets Castle Galleries apart is our passion – we are passionate about our artists, passionate about our work and passionate about our clients. And we love art – our 150 gallery staff throughout the UK have a huge amount of knowledge about the industry and are committed to sharing this with each and every person that steps into one of our galleries."
-Ian Weatherby-Blythe, Managing Director, Castle Galleries.
Located in the heart of the Midlands in Birmingham, approximately 3,500 works of art are printed, mounted and framed for Castle Galleries each month. But don't let the quantity fool you – quality is still our first priority and is never compromised. During the process of creating a mount and a frame, the artwork will be worked on by up to seven highly skilled craftsmen. With over 400 wood frames and 40 different mounts designs at our disposal, our craftsmen put time and thought into presenting each piece of art in the best possible manner. Only when each piece is completed to the highest standard does the final assembler sign the quality label.
"When selecting a frame for an artwork, quality of material is crucial and only the best available is used. All materials that come into contact with the artwork are natural, with conservation grade mounts and paper used, so that the art work maintains its pristine, as-new quality. It's the attention to detail that make our frames stand out. You only have to see the skills of our craftsmen and the care they put into their work to appreciate that."
-Tim Goodwin, Operations Director, Castle Galleries.
Across our network of retail galleries, we ensure a warm, welcoming and inspiring experience, with a touch of luxury. And we look forward to continuing to do so for years to come.
