Bill Bate has always had a passion for painting; and studied for a Fine Arts Degree at Central School of Art and Design in London, which he credits with introducing him to more abstract ideas as well as developing figurative skills.

History and Background

Developing his figurative skills through studying Fine Art at the Central School of Art and Design in London, Bill Bate has always been fascinated by the human form and the way refracted light lies on the body to illuminate it. He uses light and shade to enhance his images, giving them excitement and mood.

Ideas and Inspirations

Bate's underwater figures are accentuated by the cool, dark tones of the ocean reef with the subject's pose depicting a freedom from the constraints of gravity.
