Over the years, artist and sculptor Steven Lovatt has experimented with a wide range of materials, including bronze, wood, fibreglass, ceramic, resin and steel. He feels that this flexibility across varying mediums is crucial to his artistic output.

History and Background

Steven first learned how to create balloon animals at a children's party, and very soon he was amusing his children and those he coaches at under 10s cricket with his fun characters.

Ideas and Inspirations

Citing the famous Japanese-born balloon twister Masayoshi Matsumoto as a source of inspiration, he has no pretentions about his work. “Doing what I do brings happiness both to me and my collectors," he says. "It draws upon a symbol of happiness embedded in our collective psyche from our formative years, themes of children’s parties and simple pleasures. What more validation do I need?”
